Lesson 1 Introduction to Oracle Networking Topology

  Welcome to Network Topology, the first course in the two-part Oracle8 Network Administration Certification Series, which is designed to introduce you to the networking tools and concepts associated with Oracle8TM, the industry-leading database software.
Network Topology focuses on the general concepts associated with
  1. Oracle networking,
  2. Net8 and SQL*Net architecture, and
  3. client- and server-side configuration.
Network Topology
The second course, Network Configuration Management, delves into the technical details of configuring and using many of Net8's components, including
  1. Oracle Names,
  2. the Oracle Enterprise Manager,
  3. the Multi-Threaded Server, and
  4. the Connection Manager.
In addition, Network Configuration Management covers security and troubleshooting in the network environment.
Taken together, these courses are designed to prepare you for Test Five of the Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) exam series.

Learning objectives
After completing the first course in this series, you will be able to:
  1. Identify networking business trends and problems
  2. Describe Oracle's networking solutions
  3. Develop an Oracle network topology
  4. Define the procedure by which Net8 establishes a server connection
  5. Create a network that utilizes the Transparent Network Substrate (TNS)
  6. Configure the listener using the Net8 Assistant
  7. Start and stop the Net8 listener using the Listener Control utility (LSNRCTL)
  8. Set up multiple listeners on the same node
  9. Install the Net8 client software
  10. Use the host-naming method to test SQL*Net connectivity
