Lesson 4 Integration Benefits
ObjectiveDescribe the benefits of integrating Proxy Server with other Networking Services

Integration Benefits

Proxy Server 2.0 can integrate with other network technologies included with Windows 2000. You can use Proxy Server together with IPSec to protect communications to and from the proxy server. You can also take advantage of Proxy Server 2.0's integration with Active Directory to create access controls based on user accounts and security group memberships. Proxy Server 2.0 can also integrate with Routing and Remote Access Services and take advantage of nonpersistent connections that work via demand dialing.
The following table describes the benefits of integrating Proxy Server with other networking services.

Proxy Server integrates with... In order to...
Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) Provide Proxy Server authentication and the encryption of data transmitted between locations over public networks
Routing and Remote Access Provide support for nonpersistent connections by using specified demand-dial connections Reduce undesired traffic by using specified IP filters
Active Directory Provide Kerberos 5.0 protocol certificates and user accounts so that authentication occurs when specified
